No matter what time of year you travel to Maui, you can count on the sun shining and the palm trees swaying in a light breeze; but not every time of year brings in hundreds of special guests to its shores. From December through May, 50-foot humpback whales migrate over 3,000 miles to birth and nurse their calves, and the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is giving guests opportunities to experience these majestic creatures in their natural environment.

"Our highly talented concierge team will go the distance to customize a whale watching program to match every guest's level of adventure and interest," says Four Seasons Resort Maui General Manager Jean Claude Wietzel. Activities like catamaran sailing, kayaking, Hawaiian outrigger canoe riding, and helicopter tours can be arranged, and you can even receive the Wai Vari spa treatment in the warm Pacific Ocean where you can actually hear the whale's soothing songs under the water.  

Inside the resort, guests can view whale watching videos that have been shot on-site over the years, and spot the humpbacks from the comfort of observation areas around the property. Once a week, fine art underwater photographers, the Cesere Brothers, also bring their incredible images to the resort so everyone can catch a glimpse of the gentle giants, whether in the water or on land. The exhibition takes places every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 20 percent of each purchase goes to the Keiki Kohola Project, an organization that helps preserve the whales and their habitat.
