Photo Courtesy of La Quinta Resort & Club The area just outside La Quinta Resort & Club’s main lobby will soon welcome a dramatic new sand masterpiece, designed to depict some of the area’s most beloved and endangered wildlife. On February 14, construction will begin on the striking sand sculpture of a family of Peninsular Big Horn sheep, similar to those native to the desert immediately surrounding the resort, and which can sometimes be seen on the resort’s golf courses. The five-foot by 15-foot by eight-foot sand creation will take four days to craft and will be built by Sandguys, the stars of Travel Channel’s Sandmasters television show. Adding to the local connection to the sculpture, will be a naming contest for the structure’s two featured lambs. Sandguys are world record-holders in the art and science of sand sculpture and have been interviewed on Good Morning America and in many other television programs and national magazines. With a motto of “Dig In and Make Art,” they welcome visits by the public and enjoy conversing with guests and photographers while working on their mammoth sand creations.
