Qatar Airways’ highly regarded wines were enjoyed by over 3,000 people at the seventh annual CHILL Event in Chicago on November 14, 2013. The International Wine and Culinary soiree, presented by LuxeHome and Wine Spectator, delighted guests with dishes from 40 renowned chefs and 150 different wines, including those from Qatar’s own collection created by Master of Wine, James Cluer.
"Our taste buds are impacted by the change in air pressure at altitude, whether it's on Mt. Everest or flying at 35,000 feet," said Cluer, who recently returned from a trip to Base Camp One on Mt. Everest. "I wanted to study that change on how we experience wine—and have a chance to visit one of the most amazing places on earth."
The luxurious airline is known for their award-winning wines and dedication to giving those on board their flights a five-star culinary experience with menus conceived by top chefs Nobu Matsuhisa, Tom Aikens, Vineet Bhatia, and Ramzi Choueiri. During a VIP pairing organized by Wine Spectator, members of Qatar Airways’ cabin crew—all of which are certified by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust—could be found pouring their First and Business Class wines for guests while they savored hors d'oeuvres prepared by Chef Federico Comacchio of Coco Pazzo Restaurant and GE Monogram Executive Chef Jon Liddell.
Qatar also raffled off a gift package that featured a bottle of each of its wines tasted during the VIP and main events including Bollinger Brut Rose Champagne NV, Lanson Brut Champagne Gold Label 1999, Chartron & Trebuchet Meursault 2010, Chateau Monbousquet St.-Emilion 2006, Dr. Loosen Riesling Spatlese Mosel Erdener Treppchen 2011, Masi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera 2008, and Kopke Vintage Port 1974.
