The modern-day fitness and spa vacation experience began in 1940 in a sheltered valley only an hour's drive from San Diego, California. Here, in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, Edmond and Deborah Szekely founded the world's first destination fitness resort and spa. Soon Rancho La Puerta became the paradigm of all multi-day -destination... vacations that encompass health and wellness for mind, body and spirit. Accommodations
You enter your casita through a hand-carved wooden door. Wood-framed windows set in brick look out over gardens, meadows, and mountains. This will be your private retreat for the week. No two are exactly alike: Their location, size, orientation, architecture, bright fabrics, and enchanting collections of museum-quality folk art make each unique. All accommodations are on ground level and open onto adjacent gardens and large patios.

Rancho La Puerta is renowned for freshly picked produce and nutritious natural foods. We have developed, tested, and proven hundreds of recipes since 1940. Over sixty years of culinary creativity, experimentation and dietary research have culminated in a superb all-natural diet. The three health and beauty centers will be your sanctuaries for the week, each staffed by skilled estheticians and therapists who have been widely trained...and often cross-trained in several disciplines. The treatments use aromatic and medicinal herbs and other healing plants grown in the organic gardens at Tres Estrellas. Their purity and freshness is a source of great pride at Rancho La Puerta. Some see the treatments as pure pleasure, but in truth they are also a valuable and therapeutic part of your balanced mind/body/spirit experience at the Ranch.
Activities
Everything...and everyone...sparkles from a mountaintop at sunrise. Hikers, warmed by the day's first rays, crest Pilgrim Way trail and look over a sea of mountain lilac. Experiences like this are a daily part of the guided hikes...from a strolling meadow walk to a demanding 11-mile trek.
