As the iconic Lanesborough gears up for a refurbishment, it's giving the public a chance to keep a part of its legacy alive by owning a part of the property. From December 9-13, 2013, the hotel will hold an auction with over 3,000 lots featuring period furnishings, artwork and artifacts that have made up the property’s signature 18th century style and sophistication.
Held inside The Lanesborough, and available by appointment via live webcast, the event will be led by Pro Auction auctioneers and contain the contents of the hotel’s 93 guestrooms, including 43 suites, private dining rooms, The Library Bar and Apsleys Restaurant. “This marks an unprecedented renovation project for the hotel which brings with it the opportunity to purchase a piece of the hotel’s history at auction as we pave the way for a new chapter for The Lanesborough,” said Managing Director Geoffrey Gelardi.
The hotel will close its doors December 20 and interior designer Alberto Pinto will begin the transformation, bringing the London landmark up to date with the latest in technological amenities, while respecting the property’s original architecture and design. “This really is going to be an exceptional event presenting a rare opportunity to acquire quality furnishings from one of the world’s leading hotels in the lead up to refurbishment,” said Mark Flynn of Pro Auction.
“It is possible for bidders to buy the entire contents of the bedrooms with a range of options to attract a variety of buyers and scales of purchase.” Online bidding by appointment takes place December 7 and 8 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and the on-site auction begins at 10:30 a.m. on December 9.
