It’s the holidays, which usually means indulging in tasty chocolates every now and then. And when the season is over, we’ve found a place to enjoy the dark treats year-round in Boston. Meet the Hotel Chocolat, not an actual hotel, but a retail chocoholic’s dream come true. Filled with every sort of chocolate imaginable, the store unveiled their flagship Cocoa Bar-Café last week, complete with private tasting room.
Hotel Chocolat comes to the U.S. by way of England where the “bean-to-bar” concept originated. “We don’t use any preservatives in our chocolate, which sets us apart from other chocolatiers,” said Matthew Copeland, sales manager of the Boston location. “We also use more cocoa and less sugar. We have a cuisine range that includes cocoa pasta and a coffee and tea line as well as a Cocoa Juvenate line. These products have cocoa butter and other all natural ingredients.”
At the restaurant, you can sip on a Praline Luxe while noshing on chocolate from Vietnam or Trinidad. The store offers fine and rare chocolate from the world’s most sought-after growing regions, including Hotel Chocolat’s own cocoa plantation in St. Lucia.
Guests can also treat themselves to delectable indulgences during the holidays such as a festive wreath made with 50 percent milk chocolate with cookies and caramelized almond Florentine squares. Or, the Gingerbread Crew contains six melt-in-your-mouth creamy chocolates and Alternative Mince Pies are made with praline and salted caramel in a milk chocolate cup.
