As the first of its kind in a hotel chain, Four Seasons has launched a new way to sleep while staying at their properties. The new beds, unceremoniously called "The Four Seasons Bed," allow guests to fully customize each one for a truly personalized experience. Partnered with manufacturer Simmons, beds have three mattress firmness settings available as well as a number of choices for amenities and types of pillows.
At first glance, these personalized options might seem gimmicky, but there are some serious benefits to offering this kind of service to its guests. The most obvious being that light sleepers shouldn't be faced with that sinking feeling that their mattress doesn’t quite line up to their preferences. The different firmness alone means most necks and backs staying at a Four Seasons can be saved from waking up achy.
Based on an Ipsos survey conducted near the end of 2013 which gathered insight from American, British, Russian and Chinese travelers, the mattresses seem to be the brand’s answer to the consumer’s need for a better night’s rest while traveling. Findings showed that 92 percent of those asked said they have a preference for firmness (which was expected), however, the fact that 30 percent have either requested a new room or slept in other spots (like a bathtub or floor) when the bed wasn't suitable to them, was fairly surprising to us.
This option to customize a sleeping experience at any hotel is long overdue, and we're glad to see this kind of personalization coming to the brand, and hopefully other boutique/chain properties in the future. The Four Seasons Bed has already been implemented in a number of U.S. properties and a full rollout will take place over the next few years. And, for those who are sure to fall in love with it, it will be available to purchase at any Four Seasons that already has the bed installed.
