If you’re like me, you’re probably tired of always being connected. That doesn’t mean we’re all going to give up our smartphones, iPads and laptops any time soon though (right?). Knowing that we wouldn’t pull the Band-Aid off ourselves, Grand Velas Resorts is offering to do it for us.
This month, the brand launched their Digital Detox Concierge program to free guests from the minute-to-minute stresses associated with technology at either Grand Velas Riviera Maya or Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. Upon arrival, a concierge will invite you to power down; if you agree, they will then cleanse your suite of TVs, electronic devices and your personal cell phones.
Making sure that you get out and about to see the area, the hotel will then give you a bracelet in exchange for your electronics. The bracelet guarantees access to one of four activities: biking tour, ecological excursion visiting the property's flora and fauna, a snorkeling adventure and a spa session. Once you've finished an activity, an “Activities Agent” will provide you with an additional bracelet, signifying it's completion. Only after acquiring four bracelets can you get your devices back.
You’ll also receive a t-shirt which reads, “We are digital detoxing," which may or may not be something you’ll want to wear (just saying). In the lobby, your family’s last name will be featured with a timer, showing how long you’ve digitally unplugged.
Brave souls looking to power down can book a room starting at $393 per night in Riviera Maya and $355 per night in Riviera Nayarit. Rates are all-inclusive and come with premium branded beverages, à la carte gourmet meals at a number of specialty restaurants and 24-hour in-suite service.
