Hotel Overview
Situated on the Big Island's golden Kohala Coast, The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel stands as a landmark of superior luxury. The hotel was founded in 1965 by Laurance S. Rockefeller and has been a favorite among discerning travelers ever since.
In 2008, the hotel underwent a $150 million renovation and was restored to its original luster. As part of the multi-million dollar restoration, new luxurious amenities were added throughout the hotel. New amenities include a world-class spa by Mandara; new culinary experiences featuring Kohala Regional Cuisine, stewarded by Executive Chef George Gomes; and newly refurbished guest rooms. The number of guestrooms and suites were reduced from 310 to 258 to accommodate the expansion of livable space.
Other on-site amenities include the 11-court Seaside Tennis Club, the Salon at Mauna Kea, yoga and exercise classes, children's activities, Hawaiian cultural experiences, Art & Garden Tour, and the Beach at Kauna'oa Bay, offering enhanced beach services and cabanas.
The signature restaurant, Manta & Pavilion Wine Bar, features an exhibition kitchen showcasing Kohala Regional Cuisine and a state-of-the-art Enomatic wine system that dispenses 48 wines by the glass. Enjoy live jazz on Friday and Saturday evenings.
At Monettes, you'll experience inventive American French cuisine with island influences while taking in spectacular ocean views of Kauna'oa Bay.
The Hau Tree beachside grill at Kauna'oa Bay is the perfect place to quench your thirst - with a tropical drink, refreshing smoothie, Ovaltine Froth or Signature "Fredrico" cocktail while enjoying salads, freshly made sandwiches and burgers straight from the grill.
The Copper Terrace offers different themed pupus nightly, prepared a la minute, like a sizzling yakitori grill, icy raw bar delicacies, your favorite sushi and more.
Number 3, a casual clubhouse restaurant overlooks the first tee and driving range of our award-winning golf course. Menu favorites include Hirabara Spinach Salad Salad and pizzas hot from our very own wood-burning pizza oven.
Enjoy Mauna Kea's longstanding traditions, the Clambake, the Big Island's most remarkable seafood buffet, and the grand Lu'au, featuring authentic Hawaiian cuisine and live entertainment.
The world-famous Mauna Kea Golf Course has also been upgraded and redesigned to USGA standards by Rees Jones, son of the original course designer, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The renovation features a new Clubhouse with Pro Shop, locker rooms and a restaurant.
