When money is no object, you can live and play just about anywhere. Tokyo, New York and Los Angeles are already well known for their pricey and exclusive neighborhoods, but there are several other cities growing in appeal to the über-affluent. MSN recently revealed a 2012 report by London-based real estate consulting firm Knight Frank on the top 10 cities with the highest concentration of people worth $30 million or more.

They also give predictions on those numbers in the year 2022. Not surprisingly, New York City had the most high net worth individuals with 7,580 and a projected 10,306 in 2022. However, that 36 percent increase doesn’t come close to the estimated growth in some other more unexpected cities. São Paulo is one of those, with 1,880 multi-millionaires now, and an anticipated 143 percent jump, taking the count to 4,566 in 2022. The second largest city in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, is where Knight Frank notes a 146 percent rise from 1,740 to 4,285 over the next 10 years. Beijing, Mumbai and San Francisco also made the lustrous list.

Did these city’s high-end offerings attract the millionaires or did they come about as a result of their congregation? Probably a little of both. These destinations are renowned for providing Michelin-starred restaurants, world-class shopping, stunning real estate and personalized services that make the incredibly wealthy not just vacation there, but settle down and continue to build up the areas.

To accommodate the rising population and compete with the other major cities, inevitably means the addition of even more impressive amenities and experiences to continue luring in the affluent. Just know you’ll be well taken care of should you find yourself in these glamorous places around the world—today and well into the future.
