The Doonbeg Golf Club hotel on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in Ireland has a new owner and will soon have a new name. Purchased by the Trump Hotel Collection, the resort will be called the Trump International Golf Links, Ireland.
The 218-suite Lodge at Doonbeg is also a part of the deal, which includes a number of restaurants and a large spa. This acquisition should be a good addition to the Trump Organization's fast-growing list of luxury and leisure properties around the world. The purchase marks the group's fourth addition in less than a year with other recent properties located in Rio de Janeiro, Vancouver and Washington D.C. It is also the 12th hotel in the brand's lineup.
Situated on over 400 acres of rolling green Irish landscape that fronts nearly 2.5 miles of Atlantic coastline, the property has been the recipient of many awards and has been much celebrated during its run so far. Condé Nast Traveler named it the "#1 Resort in Europe,” and it was deemed the "European Golf Resort of the Year" by Travel + Leisure, as well as earning itself a "World's Best" title from the magazine.
Through this purchase, Donald Trump seems to be further making his mark on the golf world as a whole. He has already been referred to as "Golf's Greatest Builder Today" by Jerry Tarde of Golf Digest Magazine and is looking to make Trump International Links, Ireland, the region's most luxurious and best resort.
About an hour's drive west of Shannon, Ireland, the Doonbeg Golf Club and The Lodge at Doonbeg offer guests privacy and comfort in a rural Irish escape from large cities and high-traffic destinations, making this one of the better resorts for anyone looking to really "get away from it all" without giving up a chance to golf at a world-class course.
