Using featured Southern California artists from the 2014 Festival of Arts Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach as his subjects, photographer Charley Akers is bringing his photography exhibit to The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel from May 8 to August 30. Akers has been described as having an uncanny "ability to disarm the subject and catch a singular moment of who the artist is at their core."

Considering the natural emotional complexities of those within the arts community, the description is a phenomenal compliment, maybe even the best a photographer could receive. Each of the artists' portraits will be complemented by a piece of their own work as well. Russell Jacques, the famous sculptor and painter, said of Akers' portrait of him that "It is one of the best photos ever of me." Along with Jacques, other artists in the exhibition include Ron Azevedo, Marlo Bartels, Paul Bond, Antje Campbell, Susan Jarecky, Christopher Jefferies, Murray Kruger, Tom Swimm, Hannah Harris and Rachel Young.

When comparing this conceptually simple yet aesthetically incredible body of work to his past as a corporate photographer, Akers said, "In any product or resort shoot I am given every element. What to shoot, where to shoot, when to shoot and how to shoot." He continued, "With these portraits, I hold the creative control which allows me the freedom to get to know my subjects and bring the essence of who they are into the camera lens for the world to see."
