Another big name in the luxury hotel industry has announced its plan to continue expansion into Asia. Ritz-Carlton revealed they would be opening a new hotel in first quarter 2015 in Nanjing, China, one of the country’s four great ancient capitals.

Up until 1927 when it moved to Beijing, Nanjing was China’s capital. Today, the city that sits on either side of the Yangtze River, has a population of eight million and is known for its numerous UNESCO heritage sites featuring tombs from the Ming dynasty.

“Nanjing represents a strategic growth opportunity for The Ritz-Carlton as we double our growth in China,” said Victor Clavell, Vice President – Asia Pacific. “Spectacular hotels in prime locations with the right partners will allow us to create even more new and exciting experiences for our global affluent guests.”

The property will contain 297 rooms and 32 suites as well as expansive meeting rooms and several function spaces, four restaurants and bars, an ESPA spa, indoor pool and state-of-the-art fitness center. Located 30 minutes from the airport in Xiejiekou, Nanjing’s bustling business district, it is nearby to various department stores and luxury brand boutiques.
